Facebook is a popular social networking platform that has over 2 billion users worldwide. As of March 2019, the company had 1.52 billion monthly active users (MAUs) and 1.23 billion daily active users (DAUs).
What is Facebook?
A social media website where people share photos, videos, links, comments, likes, events, groups, etc. through their individual profiles.
How does Facebook work?
When you open Facebook, you are automatically redirected to your home page. From here, you have two options for how you want to use the site. You can either click on “start using Facebook” if you want to browse content from friends, family, and pages followed by you; or you can choose to create an account if you want to interact with other members of the site.
Once you select either option, you go through a registration process where you enter personal information like name, email address, password, gender, birthday, and location into a form. This data is then stored in your profile. After this step, you are ready to start browsing. There are three tabs on the bottom of the screen that allows you to access different parts of the site.
These include your newsfeed, messages, and friend list. Your News Feed shows what content is being shared among your friends and the pages you follow. Messages provide notifications about any private messages sent to you, while the Friend List allows you to view your closest friendships.

Twitter is a micro-blogging service that allows users to send messages called tweets. Tweets are limited to 140 characters and can include hyperlinks back to websites, pictures, videos, or any other content that can be embedded into a tweet. Users can follow other people’s tweets and receive updates about their activities.
The service was created by Jack Dorsey, who also co-founded Square Inc., a mobile payments company based in San Francisco. In 2010, he launched the site from his dorm room at the University of California, Irvine.
In July 2006, Twitter acquired TweetDeck, a desktop application that allowed users to manage multiple Twitter accounts simultaneously. On May 1, 2009, Twitter announced that it had raised $25 million in venture capital funding led by Andreessen Horowitz, with participation from Bessemer Venture Partners and FirstMark Capital. This round of financing valued Twitter at approximately $200 million.
On January 21, 2011, Twitter announced that it would begin charging businesses to promote their products and services through its advertising system. The move was seen as a way to help offset revenue losses due to declining usage among consumers.
On March 20, 2012, Twitter announced that it was acquiring Gnip, a startup that provides real-time data about social conversations.
On September 25, 2013, Twitter announced that it has reached 500 million monthly active users.
