Facebook has a loyal user base, but Twitter is bigger and stronger than Facebook. If you are looking for a platform that will allow you to reach a wider audience, then I would suggest checking out Twitter.

Introduction to Facebook

Facebook is a popular social networking platform that has over 2 billion users worldwide. As of March 2019, the company had 1.52 billion monthly active users (MAUs) and 1.23 billion daily active users (DAUs).

What is Facebook?

A social media website where people share photos, videos, links, comments, likes, events, groups, etc. through their individual profiles.

How does Facebook work?

When you open Facebook, you are automatically redirected to your home page. From here, you have two options for how you want to use the site. You can either click on “start using Facebook” if you want to browse content from friends, family, and pages followed by you; or you can choose to create an account if you want to interact with other members of the site.

Once you select either option, you go through a registration process where you enter personal information like name, email address, password, gender, birthday, and location into a form. This data is then stored in your profile. After this step, you are ready to start browsing. There are three tabs on the bottom of the screen that allows you to access different parts of the site.

These include your newsfeed, messages, and friend list. Your News Feed shows what content is being shared among your friends and the pages you follow. Messages provide notifications about any private messages sent to you, while the Friend List allows you to view your closest friendships.

Features of Facebook

  1. Free – No cost to use
  2. Instant messaging – You can send messages instantly without having to wait
  3. Social media platform – allows you to connect to people around the world through your profile
  4. Graphical user interface (GUI) – A graphical computer interface that allows you to interact directly with applications instead of typing text commands

Introduction to Twitter

Twitter is a micro-blogging service that allows users to send messages called tweets. Tweets are limited to 140 characters and can include hyperlinks back to websites, pictures, videos, or any other content that can be embedded into a tweet. Users can follow other people’s tweets and receive updates about their activities.

The service was created by Jack Dorsey, who also co-founded Square Inc., a mobile payments company based in San Francisco. In 2010, he launched the site from his dorm room at the University of California, Irvine.

In July 2006, Twitter acquired TweetDeck, a desktop application that allowed users to manage multiple Twitter accounts simultaneously. On May 1, 2009, Twitter announced that it had raised $25 million in venture capital funding led by Andreessen Horowitz, with participation from Bessemer Venture Partners and FirstMark Capital. This round of financing valued Twitter at approximately $200 million.

On January 21, 2011, Twitter announced that it would begin charging businesses to promote their products and services through its advertising system. The move was seen as a way to help offset revenue losses due to declining usage among consumers.

On March 20, 2012, Twitter announced that it was acquiring Gnip, a startup that provides real-time data about social conversations.

On September 25, 2013, Twitter announced that it has reached 500 million monthly active users.

Twitter Advantages

  1. You can target your audience based on their location, age, gender, interests, etc.
  2. Your ad will appear on people’s home page, not just the search results page.
  3. You can track how many impressions your tweets get.
  4. Twitter allows you to create multiple ads at once.
  5. You can set daily budgets and pay only for clicks that are actually converted into sales.
  6. You can use Twitter’s API to integrate your site with Twitter.

Comparison Between Facebook and Twitter

  • Facebook is a social networking site where users can create profiles, add friends, send messages to other members, and interact with each other through chat rooms, blogs, events, groups, pages, etc.
  • Twitter is a microblogging service that allows its users to post short updates (tweets) about their activities, interests, and opinions. Tweets are public, but unlike Facebook posts, they expire after a certain amount of time.
  • Both services have become extremely popular over the past few years, and both offer similar features. However, there are some differences between them.
  • Facebook has been around since 2004 but only recently became popular among millennials. It was originally designed to help students stay in touch with their friends while studying. Nowadays, Facebook is used for many different purposes from keeping in touch with family members to sharing pictures and videos.
  • Twitter is a newer social media platform that allows users to send out short messages called tweets. Tweets are limited to 140 characters and have become a great way to keep people updated on what’s going on in the world. Unlike its older competitor, Facebook, Twitter doesn’t require a person to sign up in order to use it.

Another difference between the two sites is how they handle security. Twitter uses OAuth, which is an open standard protocol for authorizing access to protected resources over the internet. On the other hand, Facebook uses something called Open Graph Protocol (OGP). Both protocols allow users to log into websites using their Facebook accounts. This means that if someone steals your password, they could potentially get access to your personal information.

Conclusion

Both platforms offer similar features including posting status updates, uploading pictures, sending direct messages to other users, liking pages, following users, and commenting on posts. However, they differ in some ways. One thing that sets them apart is how they handle privacy settings. While Facebook lets you share your information freely, Twitter requires you to specify who can view your profile, who can follow you, and who can tweet directly to you. This makes Twitter a little safer than Facebook.
